Santa Claus and Father Frost – a warm meeting of good friends
On January 8 Santa Claus left SantaPark, his own cavern in Rovaniemi, to pay a friendly visit to Komi Republic, Russia. Santa was invited by Kodzidbell, Komi’s own Father Frost, to attend the winter festival “Northern Ibiza” held in the city of Syktyvkar. Warm welcome was awaiting for Santa at Syktyvkar airport where Santa landed with his reindeer.
Komi authorities, singers, dancers and local children had gathered to receive Santa and his elf. During the two day visit Santa visited the Finno-Ugric Ethnopark and participated in the celebrations on the main arena of Syktyvkar along with Russian pop stars and figure-skating Olympic champions.
As a highlight of the visit the results of the international contest for “The most interesting character” were drawn. People in Hungary, Estonia, Russia and Finland voted Santa Claus to be the winner. Santa Claus commented that meeting people in Komi was an unforgettable experience and hopefully will set the basis for further friendship and co-operation.
Santa Claus did celebrate Father Frost’s birthday on 18th November in Vologda, Russia. In February 2012 Moscow’s Father Frost will come to visit Santa Claus in Rovaniemi!
